Sea State, by Tabitha Lasley
A writer goes to interview oil rig workers in Scotland.
I thought the book was really good -- this published extract is the reason I read it, and mostly the book was like that, so.
My one big disappointment was the ending, which I felt just kinda petered out, and I can't help thinking/speculating/believing that this was some kind of weird compromise between the author and some editor/publisher for some reason. I really want to talk to the author and see what the ending was meant to be doing and if there's something I was missing there. But otherwise... it's just kinda sad, since they say your experience of things is so shaped by beginnings and endings, when you get to the end of something and it doesn't seem as good as the rest once.
