Trust Exercise, by Susan Choi

A novel about sex and power.

I thought this was exceptionally good -- some things about it bothered me, I wish it had been slightly different, but overall a ridiculously good piece of writing and one I'm sure I'll be thinking about for a long time.

It's a little hard to talk about without in some sense spoiler-ing it, so I'm not really going to talk about it.

The book did remind me a lot of how awful high school is, and how awful discovering sex is (or can be? I'm 99% sure it's "is", but I guess there are exceptions). We're just these raw vulnerable creatures emerging into this brutally nightmarish machine, and several times reading this book I just wondered all over again how I made it through any of that.
